It’s Your Story : Autumn Family Photo Shoot in Somerset

Hey there, wonderful families of Somerset!

One of the things I love most about my job is helping families capture those precious moments, especially when there's a new bundle of joy on the way. I often get questions about my photography packages designed to celebrate the arrival of a new baby.

Whilst my Studio Newborn shoots are a hit, they may not be the perfect fit for every family. Families with bigger bundles of joy—aka older siblings—are often looking for a collection of images that paints the picture of this special time for everybody. After all, a new baby isn't just a new addition; they're a new brother or sister, and those sibling bonds? Absolutely priceless.

Earlier this year, a lovely family got in touch, bubbling with excitement about their upcoming addition in August. Mum explained that they were a lively bunch who preferred the great outdoors to the indoors. We discussed the options and decided their was no need to rush into a shoot while baby was very young, waiting 6-8 weeks would give the new arrival time to strengthen up, and also not to look too teeny-tiny - so an Autumn-themed shoot it was!

I shared some handy tips with mum on coordinating outfits, a little secret sauce that can make a world of difference to the overall vibe of your photos, especially in the vibrant autumn months.

I always remind families that while coordinated outfits might not be for everyone, a touch of harmony can really bring your family together in photos.

Luck was on our side with the weather. After what felt like a summer-long monsoon season, our booked date turned out to be dry, with the sun beaming down. Dealing with autumn/winter sun can be tricky, but our location had plenty of open shade for the family and I could play with the beautiful light filtering through the trees. The result? A warm, cozy glow that made their family photos truly magical!

Their young son was the star of the show, keeping everyone entertained, while his baby sister took a peaceful nap throughout most of the session, only waking up towards the end to grace us with serene smiles for mum and the camera! Honestly, her smiles were heart melting!

Whether it's in the snug studio or amidst the great outdoors, my family photoshoots are all about capturing your family’s unique vibe. I've got a few go-to spots that work like a charm, rain or shine (literally!), and I'm always up for discovering new gems.
